Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify road users
   • Different road user groups are recognised
   • Interactions between road user groups, both positive and negative, are acknowledged
   • Strategies are suggested to assist in the positive interaction of road users
2. Identify potential risk consequences of interaction with road users
   • Potential risks for each road user group are recognised
   • Potential consequences for each road user group are explained
   • Potential risk and consequences when road user groups interact are identified
3. Identify use and reason for road rules
   • Road rules and their purpose are explained
   • Sources of road rules and regulations are identified
   • Rules and regulations for all road users are identified
   • Rules and regulations governing road use are explained

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

demonstrating an understanding of rules and regulations as they apply to road users demonstrating an understanding of the purpose of road rules identifying other road users reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures and information using basic interpersonal and communication skills (including listening, questioning, receiving feedback).

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

applicable road regulations and legislation consequences of not adhering to road rules including: economic impact emotional reaction financial effect legal repercussions physical injury social repercussions risk factors and how they affect driver performance road users including: cyclists and skaters farm vehicles heavy commercial vehicles mobility scooters other drivers passengers pedestrians segways.
